How Lucky

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

you will suddenly know

“Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.”

How do you spell love?

“How do you spell 'love'?" - Piglet
"You don't spell feel it." - Pooh”

The Smallest Things

“Sometimes,' said Pooh, 'the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

Like mountains link arms
and stand stronger for
being beside one another.
I want to be, too, strengthened,
and to shoulder the weights and
withstand the storms,
look forward to years,
let the forests' growth
show the time we have passed
hand in hand.

I worry instead that I am eroding
slowly into desert particles.

Rock that is Higher

speak death
or speak life

Tell a truth about a lie
that you believe
in a moment
desperations and sorrow
swallowing resolve;
drifting and drowning in fear,
Cry out for help,
Speak your sin;
Shout where you are and
both will give you truth in return:

one speaks death and breaking on the rocks of truth; a judgement.
one speaks life and guiding toward the high, safe rock; a mercy.

Horizon Lines

10 days until my sister's wedding, affectionately dubbed "STRONGER 2012". (Her maiden name is Gering, her new last name will be Strong)

the thing about horizon lines is that you never get to them. They are a landscape constant, unless they are blocked by something else. In picture composition, horizon lines are shown or implied by diminishing lines and a vanishing point.

Real ones don't vanish; they just lead you on.

Horizon Lines.

Altogether, grace must govern. {Bonhoeffer}

Strong and weak,
wise and foolish,
gifted or ungifted,
pious or impious,

People bound by faith
are not--never should have been--
incentives for talking
and judging
and condemning,
and thus excuses
for self-justification.

People are rather
cause for rejoicing
and incentive for serving.

To live--altogether--not for self-justification
in its need for domination and force,
but justification by grace,
and therefore service,
must govern.

Once you know the mercy of God
your desire will be only to serve up gigantic helpings of mercy.

The proud throne of the judge no longer tempting;
You'll gladly build home with the lowly and the needy,
because that is where God found you.

--words from Bonhoeffer, Life Together, paraphrasing mine.
